Green Thumb Awards

It's a yearly pleasure to recognize and honor efforts to beautify Edwardsville through landscaping, flowering or gardening projects. For about 25 years, the Green Thumb Awards have been handed out to celebrate and encourage projects that foster neighborhood and civic pride.

Residential, neighborhood, commercial and civic beautification settings are eligible to be nominated. This Edwardsville Environmental Commission program is an easy and fun way to celebrate properties and projects that are a visual delight! 

Nominations are CLOSED for 2025

Nominations are accepted each year during the spring or summer, with recipients announced shortly after the nominations close. As part of the process, a Green Thumb Award organizer visits each nominated site and takes photographs. Award recipients receive a Green Thumb sign to post on their property for about one month. 

Nominating someone for a Green Thumb Award 

Anyone who maintains property within Edwardsville City limits and has not received a Green Thumb Award in the previous five years is eligible for an award (Edwardsville Environmental Commission members are not eligible). Self-applications are encouraged. The Green Thumb Award organizers consider the character of the nomination submitted (i.e. a homeowner-maintained garden, a professionally designed and maintained garden, a volunteer-maintained garden) in choosing the award recipients.

Ways to submit a nomination

During the eligible time period, nominations can be submitted online or printed and submitted. For 2025, nominations were due no later than Monday, June 30.
