Recreation, Arts, & Special Events Board

The Recreation, Arts, and Special Events Board makes recommendations to the corporate authorities concerning matters pertaining to acquisition, development, improvement and management of parks and playgrounds.

Other Duties: The board shall also evaluate the need for improvement and extension thereof, the need and feasibility of additional recreation, art and event facilities and methods of financing the same. The board shall also establish standards and procedures for the development, implementation, and scheduling of Recreation, Arts, Cultural activities and Special Events activities and programs while integrating a wide range of public art into and throughout the city. 

Goal: The goal of the board is to foster and encourage an appreciation and awareness of the arts, provide information to the general public concerning the activities or organizations and individuals whose efforts advance arts and culture in the city. The board will also mediate disputes and render decisions regarding matters that involve scheduling, officiating, participation, eligibility, general priorities and other matters of controversy as same may be assigned by the City Administrator, Mayor or the Corporate Authorities arising from the use of parks, park programs or other programs resulting from this Chapter. 

Reporting: The board will not have authority over the programs or responsibilities of the Municipal Band Board but must report each month to the Administrative and Community Services Committee.
